Geothermal moves heat to and from the ground instead of the outdoor air. Ground temperature a few feet down barely changes through the year, so the equipment works against a stable condition rather than a 95-degree afternoon or a 10-degree night. Operating costs are typically the lowest of any option we install.
The tradeoff is the loop field, which means excavation or drilling and a meaningfully higher installed cost. It makes the most sense on new construction, on properties with the land for a horizontal loop, and for owners planning to hold the building long enough for the operating savings to matter. We will run the numbers for your property either way.
